Relieves pain, Reduces swelling, Combats inflammation.

Produced by Novartis Pharma S.A.E Egypt, Under license from Novartis Consumer Health, Switzerland

Voltaren Emulgel is an anti-inflammatory pain reliever for topical use. Voltaren Emulgel has a triple benefit; it relieves pain, reduces inflammation and helps get you moving sooner.

The clinically proven active ingredient, diclofenac, penetrates into the skin and targets the source of inflammation, to relieve the pain 2x faster.

The emulsion gel combines the properties of a gel and a cream, so it both cools and has a moisturizing effect.

Composition:

100 g of Voltaren Gel contains:
1.16 g of diclofenac diethylamine corresponding to 1g diclofenac sodium, aromatics, excipients in a fatty emulsion base.

The following are indications for use:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis, joint arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatism (at early and late stages),
  • Degenerative spine conditions,
  • Gout attacks,
  • Renal and biliary colic,
  • Pain caused by injury, post-surgery pain, disease,
  • Respiratory infections (ear infections, pharyngitis, tonsillitis),
  • Dislocations, bruises, and sprains.
  • Localized forms of soft-tissue rheumatism, e.g. tendovaginitis, bursitis, shoulder-hand syndrome, and periathropathy.
  • Localized forms of degenerative rheumatism, e.g. osteoarthritis of the peripheral joints and of the vertebral column.

Posology and Method of Administration:

  • Adults:

Voltaren Gel is applied locally to the skin 3 or 4 times daily and rubbed in gently. The amount needed depends on the size of the painful site; For example, 2-4 g Voltaren Gel (a quantity ranging in size from a cherry to a walnut) is sufficient to treat an area of about 400-800 cm2. After application, the hands should be washed, unless they are the site being treated. The duration of treatment depends on the indication and the response obtained. It is recommended that treatment is reviewed after 2 weeks.

  • Children:

Dosage recommendations and indications for the use of Voltaren Gel in children have not been established.

Contra-indications:

Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
Patients in whom attacks of asthma, urticaria, or acute rhinitis are precipitated by acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs.

* Not to be taken by mouth.
* Protect from heat (Store below 30 degrees C).

How Voltaren Gel works

Voltaren Gel contains the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), diclofenac. Diclofenac works to relieve pain and reduce inflammation (swelling).

The Gel technology helps the gel to penetrate deeply into the skin to enhance delivery of diclofenac to the site of pain. Voltaren Gel has a cooling, moisturizing effect with no strong odors.

When to use Voltaren Gel?

Voltaren Gel is used to treat pain and inflammation of muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments, due to sprains and strains, sports injuries (eg. tennis elbow) and soft tissue rheumatism (eg. bursitis; tendinitis).

How to use Voltaren Gel?

Adults and children over 12 years: rub the gel gently into the affected area.

Apply three or four times each day. The amount you will need will depend on the size of the affected area.

Usually, an amount ranging in size from a cherry to a walnut will be enough.

Use for up to two weeks, if needed.

What is an analgesic?

Analgesic is the medical term for a pain-killer, a drug that can provide relief from pain.

Some analgesics stop pain by desensitizing local nerve endings (for example, in the painful joint); others work ‘centrally’ in the parts of the brain where the pain is perceived.

What is diclofenac?

Diclofenac is an analgesic, a medicine that relieves pain. Diclofenac belongs to a group of analgesics called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Diclofenac has been used for over 30 years.

Diclofenac is the active ingredient in all Voltaren products, which are available in oral (tablet and liquid capsule) and topical forms (applied to the skin).

Is Voltaren Gel a type of heat rub?

No, Voltaren Gel works differently from heat or cooling rubs. Heat and cooling rubs contain ingredients that stimulate nerves in the skin, to provide a sensation of heating or cooling.

Voltaren Gel is a medicated treatment containing a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory treatment. The active ingredient penetrates the skin to provide local relief of pain and inflammation.

Voltaren Gel is non-greasy, with no strong odor.
